Villa Marquis is an outstanding waterfront villa dating back to the late 1800\'s. Comprised of three floors, this mansion can sleep up to 22 guests in 10 bedrooms and 10.5 bathrooms. Marquis Eugenio Besana built this villa on the shores of Lake Como in 1891, partly inspired by the peacefulness of the location and by its proximity to the charming town of Bellagio. In 1920, an affluent Italian tycoon acquired the property as his private residence and today, his grandsons are still the current proprietors. Over the last hundred years, four generations of one family have harnessed their passion for culture and style and transformed the mansion into a luxury holiday retreat/living museum.
Access to Villa Marquis can be by car or boat, thanks to two private entrances. The big terrace on the ground floor has an impressive 180-degree view: nowhere else on Lake Como is it possible to see such perfect views of iconic landmarks such as the town of Bellagio in one direction, Menaggio and Tremezzo directly across the lake, and in the near distance, Villa Balbianello. The terrace offers a comfortable sitting room and also two wide lounges with huge windows facing the lake.
The private heated swimming pool, near the spacious terrace, offers the chance to admire this landscape while relaxing in total quiet. The pool area offers comfortable lounge chairs and al fresco dining. The pool is not fenced, but can be easily closed with an electrical shutter. For guests of Villa Marquis there\'s also a brand new tennis court, situated at about 40 mt from the water level. This tennis court has one of the most astonishing views on Lake Como. While playing tennis, guest will be able at the same time admire the lake with the beautiful Alps as a backdrop.
The villa is surrounded by a private botanical garden offering centenary trees, amazing colors, and delectable scents for an unforgettable reverie. The estates\' impressive location on Lake Como offers a panoramic shoreline walk of more than 300 meters. These luxuriant gardens (measuring nearly four hectares) climb along the mountain and provide breathtaking views.
INTERIOR (approx. 1500 sqm): The interiors are characterized by typical Italian 19th-20th century furniture. Here, details make the difference and include the impressive marble fireplace, the long tail piano, the Murano chandeliers, the luxurious paintings and the dark oak boiserie (typical of the Gabriele D’Annunzio romantic early 20th century style), and stunning walnut-coffered ceilings.
In addition to the areas available for guest use, there is also a basement (accessible only to the staff) that hosts a laundry room, a wine cellar, and a second semi-professional kitchen.
The mansion develops over three floors – please be aware that there are a lot of steps to reach the different levels of the Villa.
GROUND FLOOR: There is the main dining room that easily accommodates up to twenty guests (an ideal location for a private party) and the spacious living room with stunning views. At the same level, the villa also offers a game room, with two card tables and beautiful lighting for late-night games. Also on this floor is a fully-equipped modern kitchen and a guest WC.
Access to the first floor is either by the main staircase (31 steps) or through the secondary service stairs. Here to welcome guests is a huge oak library, with its nearly 30,000 rare and antique books embracing a variety of topics of human knowledge.
The sleeping quarters (10 bedrooms) are located entirely on the first and second floors. There are no bedrooms on the ground floor.
FIRST FLOOR: Four large, luxurious, and comfortable suites with ensuite bathrooms. The first and second suites face the lake and have access to a beautiful terrace, the third suite has windows over the southern side of the botanical garden and the lake, the fourth suite is located right in front of a giant Lebanon Cedar.

SECOND FLOOR: \"Kids & Teens Floor\", with the remaining standard bedrooms, nicely furnished and decorated, but surely less luxurious than the four suites at the first floor. A stairway of 29 steps lead to the second floor. On this floor there are 6 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and a living room with TV.

Kid’s Bedroom: Four single beds, (two of them can be joined) ensuite bathroom with tub & shower.
Carducci Room: Double bed (it can be split to twin beds), ensuite bathroom with shower.

Pink Room: King bed, ensuite bathroom with tub.
Yellow room: Double bed (it can be split to twin beds), and private bathroom with shower (not ensuite)
Upon request and after owner approval: a separate building house (fifty meters from the Villa) can easily accommodate extra staff.
The villa is always offered with resident staff service. The staff usually counts 6 people: 1 cook, 1 gardener, 2 house cleaners, and 2 people dedicated to table, pool, and terrace service. The total number of staff may vary, contingent upon the number of guests in attendance.
Included in the rental price: Staff (personal staff allowed but by preauthorization from the owner), basic grocery items, full food service (breakfast/lunch/dinner), daily change bath towels, twice weekly change bed and pool linen, luxury bath & shower products, tennis court & pool usage, all utilities, garden maintenance

LOCATION: Situated directly on Lake Como, not far away from the world famous Villa Carlotta, Villa Marquis is a few minutes away from the picturesque village of Bellagio (also known as \"The Pearl of The Lake\") and just half an hour by car from the renowned Menaggio Golf Club. The privileged position and relatively mild climate make Bellagio a very interesting year-round destination. Visitors will be charmed and delighted by its stone-made stairs and the vertical structure of the town, by the elegant shops where time seems to have stopped, by its porticos - ideal for a romantic stroll - and wide bars where a wonderful espresso or hot chocolate can be enjoyed.
