  • Description

Villa Cilento is a modern, three-story villa built in a traditional style, set 124 feet above sea level with stunning views stretching for miles along the Cilento coast. The villa is comfortably furnished in a contemporary style and each level is self-contained making it ideal for larger groups. Outside there is ample space for everyone to come together and enjoy the stunning sea views from one of the many terraces, lounge in the shade of a huge Mediterranean oak tree, soak up the sun around the pool, or enjoy a meal on the rustic 'taverna' dining terrace.

Surrounded by a big enclosed garden, it is the perfect accommodation for families with children. Pets may be considered upon request.

The sandy beach at Villammare is only 600 meters away, and it is ideal for long walks - from the beach following the coast you can reach the town center in 10 minutes. Villammare offers a small selection of bars and restaurants and in the summer has lively beach cafes and facilities. Sapri is a larger town with good train links to Salerno and Naples. Inland, the charming hilltop village of Vibonati is lit in ever-changing colors during the balmy summer evenings. Villammare sits at the foot of the Cilento National Park the second largest in Italy stretching across a huge mountain range and an important ecological area with abundant wildlife. There are many historical sites to visit from the monastery at Padula to the temples of Paestum and the abandoned village of San Severino di Centola. Natural sites include: Mount Cervati, WWF oasis of Morigerati, Hair of Venus waterfalls and Grotte di Pertosa caves among many others.

This stretch of the Tyrrhenian coast is rugged and unspoilt a glimpse of the Amalfi of the past, before it was 'discovered'. Take a boat trip from the delightful port at Scario to Porto Infreschi, passing caves and hidden coves en route and order a fresh seafood lunch from the boat-cum-restaurant, which is moored in this tiny natural bay. Or drive south to see the impressive statue of Jesus high on a cliff top above Maratea. You can reach the Amalfi coast and the island of Capri by hydrofoil from Sapri harbour within 3 hours during the summer months the perfect way to enjoy the Amalfi coast without staying in the tourist hustle and bustle.

Cilento is an ancient cultural land that has long been identified as the cradle of the Mediterranean. You may have heard of the American biologist and nutritionist Ancel Keys. In recent years, scientists from all over the world have been drawn to Cilento and Acciaroli to try to understand the secret of healthy aging, which means the area is on its way to qualifying as a scientifically confirmed blue zone, alongside the Japanese island of Okinawa, the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, Ogliastra in eastern Sardinia and the Greek island of Ikaria. As in the other blue zones, there is hardly just one reason why so many people are over 100 years old. For a long life, a combination of healthy food, physical activity, stable social networks and a sense of meaning in life are all needed.
Inspired by the nutritional values and cuisine of countries around the Mediterranean Sea, the Mediterranean Diet, recently named a World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, was born in Cilento.
In this fantastic land have been left the marks of the great history, indeed Cilento is universally renowed as the "Land of the Myth" because in the past it hosted important settlements of the Romans, Lucans and Greek. Today inside this limitless territory there are two imperious statements of antiquity: the archeological areas of Paestum and Velia, splendours from the classical period.
The awe of history here is slightly stunning. It was here that the founder of Rome, Aeneas, is said to have made shore first in western Italy after the battle of Troy, and it is also said to be here along the coast that the sirens called on Odysseus with their songs. Whether it is the food, the herbs or the genes is yet to be completely determined, but one thing is for sure, there is certainly lust for life here.
Villammare is an ancient fishing village at the foot of the extensive Cilento National Park. The Park takes in one of the most attractive strip of the Tyrrhenian coast swathed by the vivid colours of the Mediterranean flora.
Long sandy beaches, a colourful seafront fringed with palms and eucalyptus trees, small restaurants, cosy venues and cottages make of Villammare the perfect seaside resort for travellers from all over the world, in search of friendly and charming spots off the beaten track.
Breathtaking views from the hills covered with centuries-old cork oaks, trekking the mountains and cruising along the Cilento coast, mouth-watering regional cuisine and the special friendliness of the locals captivate visitors all year round.

It is possible to reach Villa Cilento by high speed train from Naples to Sapri in 2 hours.

Villammare is lively in the summer and there are bars, chalets, and shops. The "marina" of Villammare is about 1 mile. Therefore you could walk to town but car is recommended because the last part of the road to the villa is steep (this is the reason why the villa has such stunning views). It is not a place spoiled by massive tourism and you will find a friendly athmosphere all around and an autentic glimpse of Italy. Restaurants in the surrounding as well as "trattorie" and "pizzerie" serve very good food at a great value for money.
Moreover the Villa is in the "National Park of Cilento" (UNESCO world heritage) so you can go on a lot of excursions in suggestive natural places, whether in the mountains or at the sea.

This was an incredible place to vacation for my family. If you want to escape to the real Italy, away from the tourists but experience the best of the Italian coast - this is a gem! The pictures do no justice to this place. The villa is full of all the luxuries we needed. The bedrooms were all very large with good design and great amenities. The bathrooms were well stocked and extremely clean - as was the whole houses immaculate. The kitchen was great and a fun place to prepare food. The outdoor kitchen was also a real treasure at night for long dinners with our large group. There are many eating areas and balconies with well appointed seating for morning coffees, afternoon reading and evening cocktails. Lots of space to get some quiet time. Our family enjoyed so much time at the pool. Its huge and has great steps leading into if you have little ones. There was a box full of pool toys too which was brilliant for our group. There was also a great slide and swing set in the garden - it is an endless activity center for a family. The villa is surrounded with lots of delicious fruit trees and everyday we picked lemons, plums, peaches as we played in the garden. It was magic. Perhaps the best part of the trip was our host Marzio and his team. He was incredible helping us plan activities before and during our stay (definitely recommend the boat trip and booking dinner at his local favorites). He shared with us his family wine - which tasted even better with the stories he shared about his family. Maria the housekeeper keeps the home immaculate and always there to help with anything we needed. They really made us feel welcome and shared the best of Italian hospitality. We will be back to stay again - it was heaven.

The villa is wonderful. A fantastic location with sea views and private surrounds. Marzio our host made sure all our needs were fully met. Gardens pretty with apricot orchards set against blue sea vistas. The pool was hard to clamber out of. Perfect temperature (June) Equally the nearby sea was so clean and clear and great to swim in. Heavenly. Diversity of activities in this area. Cilento national park has stunning mountain scenery tumbling down to the sea. Hiking to waterfalls. Boat trips. One of the best family holidays we have ever had.

We spent a week at the Villa in August 2018 for a family reunion and holiday. We were 5 adults and 5 children (aged 6 to 15). We had an amazing week! From my earliest interactions with Marzio (the owner) I felt just incredibly comfortable in speaking to him. He is a genuinely caring person who goes out of his ways to ensure that his guests have an amazing time and he is always accessible (we had him on whatsapp). He went above and beyond to make the house comfortable and accessible for each of our family members. The villa has the most stunning views from all floors looking out towards the hills further south and out into the beautiful sea. The pool is incredibly well kept and we spent at least 3 days lounging by the pool. There is plenty to do (boat excursions, beaches, driving to nearby villages or further out to Pompeii or Naples) or not do and just chill at Villamare. It is a little out of the way - but we loved that as it allowed us to experience a part of Italy that most foreign tourists never get to. The people of Villamare and surrounding villages are incredibly friendly even though they may not speak much English. The food and wine is amazing. -Marzio connected us to a chef who came and cooked many delicious 3 course meals for us.
