Chateau Manaurie is set within its own 184 acre estate of unspoiled rural valley for your exclusive use. Perfect for a family holiday, a party of friends, a group with shared interests, or a wedding celebration. It\'s located in the heart of the Dordogne region within easy reach of charming historic towns, wonderful restaurants, and exciting activities. The accommodation consists of two buildings: The Forge and The Barn, which face each other across the 300ft garden. Each building is a complete home with sitting room, kitchen, laundry facilities, log burner, and a wheelchair accessible bedroom on the ground floor. The estate also features a sauna, an exercise studio, a gymnasium, a wisteria-covered pergola with dining area and barbecue, a pit for log bonfire with seating, another dining area with morning sun exposure, a swimming pool, a large fishing lake with boat, and a very large garden with the little river Manaurie running through it.
This private valley is minutes away from the Vezere valley famous for its prehistoric sites – 147 of them listed by UNESCO! The entire countryside of the Dordogne is a delight of hidden valleys, chateaux, castles, and unexpected views. The cooler months are perfect for cyclists, photographers, walkers, enthusiasts of prehistory, and any outdoor activity. The swimming pool is lovely in warmer weather, but nearby you can go canoeing, ballooning, horseback riding, golfing, truffle hunting, or simply soak up the local culture and ancient architecture.
The Forge was built when Louis XIV – the Sun King – was at the peak of his radiance and France was the leading European power. Originally completed in 1680 as a hunting lodge for the Marquis De Fleurac, over the centuries it has had many changes and was, for a time, a forge that made huge iron cauldrons for sugar reduction in the French Caribbean. The locals still call it Forge Neuve, and it is also said to have produced cannons for Napoleon\'s army. The Chateau is just minutes away from the Bastide villages of Domme, Monpazier, Eymet, and Villefranche du Périgord, as well as being close to some of the listed \'Plus Beaux Villages de France\', including Castelnaud, Beynac (stronghold of Richard the Lionheart), Sarlat, Limeuil, and more.
The Chateau offers 10 bedrooms in two separate buildings that face each other across the 300ft garden. The Forge has six bedrooms, and The Barn has four. Each of the buildings is a self-contained home with fully-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, comfortable lounge with log fire and TV, and dining area, and Wi-Fi. All bedrooms are extremely comfortable and spacious (see descriptions below). Every bedroom has a private bathroom, and there are three more bathrooms elsewhere including the poolhouse. The Forge has air conditioning and heating, plus three log burners.
MAIN HOUSE (FORGE):
The main house has six bedrooms, five on the first floor and one on the ground floor. All bathrooms have heated floors and towel rails
1. Lavender has access to the garden, two single beds, couch and desk, and an ensuite bathroom with bathtub on the same level.
2. Rose has a double bed (160 cms), and access to a private bathroom by stairs from the hallway; the bathroom has two washbasins, shower and bathtub.
3. Peach has a double bed (160 cms) and ensuite with shower on the same level.
4. Wisteria has twin beds, and a circular staircase to the private bathroom with shower on the next level.
5. Poppy has a double bed (160 cm) and a similar bathroom arrangement as Wisteria.
6. Lily has a large double bed (180 cm), access to a private sun terrace overlooking the garden, and a similar bathroom arrangement as Rose.
THE BARN:
The Barn has four bedrooms, three on the first floor and one - Olive - on the ground floor. They all have ensuite bathrooms on the same level.
1. Olive has twin beds, walk-in clothes closet, sitting area, and ensuite bathroom with shower and bathtub.
2. Fig has a large double bed (170 cm) and ensuite bathroom with shower.
3. Walnut has twin beds with ensuite bathroom and shower.
4. Almond has a queen size bed (160 cm), sitting area, and two bathrooms each with shower.
The Estate is 184 acres in a quiet wooded valley with the little Manaurie River and a single track road. On-site facilities available to guests include:
