Apartment Calcedonio is a simple and stylish three bedroom second floor apartment (no lift) overlooking Gondola “squero”, one of the last gondola boatyards in Venice where craftsmen build gondolas using ancient techniques. The building is located in one of the nicest areas of Dorsoduro and overlooks a canal from two of the bedrooms and the living room. This apartment has very warm appeal because of its open beam ceilings, comfortable furniture, and use of wood in the floors, doors and trim.
There are many amenities such as air conditioning, high speed internet, television, phone, hairdryer, iron.
Prices include: Utilities, linens, final cleaning.
Children are allowed, but no smoking or pets.
Apartment Calcedonio’s living room has an old-world appeal to it. As mentioned before, the use of wood on the floor, doors, and trim adds warmth, and there is a beautiful stone fireplace. Included is a double sofa bed for two guests. From the living room, you enter a well-appointed kitchen (which includes a stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine) and dining area. There are three comfortable bedrooms; one with a queen bed, one with two twin beds (can be prepared as a double), and one with a single twin bed (an extra bed can be added.) There are two brightly tiled bathrooms; one with a bathtub and one with a shower.
Venice is divided into seven districts, each with its own ambience: San Marco in the center, Cannaregio to the north, San Polo and Santa Croce to the west, Dorsoduro along the southwestern shore, Castello along the eastern shore, and Giudecca to the south. Apartment Calcedonio is located in the Dorsoduro district near Accademia Bridge, the Accademia Museum, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and Santa Maria della Salute church. The vaperetto stop is Zattere/Accademia.
Venice is one of the great renaissance cities in Italy; it boasts exceptional museums and many interesting historic sites to visit. Located in the region of Veneto on the northeastern Italian coast, Venice is literally 100 islands connected by bridges and laced with canals. The islands themselves are car-free; you can get around Venice either on foot or by canal transportation. There is a two-mile long causeway (with highway and train lines) that links Venice to the mainland at the town of Mestre. Parking is easy to find in Mestre, or there are parking lots on the edge of Venice where the highway ends. Shuttle trains regularly connect Mestre’s station to Venice’s Santa Lucia station (about 10 minutes.) Other towns of interest in the Veneto region include Padua, Ravenna, Vicenza, and Verona, all easily accessible by train. The most famous Venetian festival is Carnevale (equivalent to Mardi Gras in the US), which takes place in late January/early February.
