Where do you want to go?
La Maison de Lumiere - The House of Light - is a beacon of contemporary charm and sophisticated style in the culturally rich area of Provence known as the Luberon. Formally an old post office, the owner of La Maison has transformed a neglected and crumbling building into one of the areas most elegant and inviting homes. The interior is painted in warm tones and is furnished with interesting furniture and art pieces collected from around the world. Floor to ceiling glass windows provide transparency and light while creating a focal point around the ancient, limestone courtyard. A rooftop terrace provides unsurpassed views of the beautiful surrounding countryside and mountains. Located just minutes from the charming and tranquil town of Menerbes, La Maison de Lumiere has plenty to offer the visitor to Provence. Included in the rental price are heat, gas and electricity, two hours of maid service three times a week, exclusive access to a nearby swimming pool, seven mountain bikes and numerous kid-friendly accoutrements (crib, bassinet, stroller, books and movies). There is a parking garage for a mid-sized car and additional parking on the street.
The ground floor of La Maison de Lumiere is bathed in warm tones, which accentuate the natural architecture of this unique home. The living and dining areas are spacious and open, furnished with exquisite artifacts collected from around the world. Comfortable sofas and armchairs enclose the fireplace and offer a cozy retreat for after dinner conversation. The well-equipped kitchen (fridge/freezer/ice maker, professional gas stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, food processor and coffee maker) provides a perfect venue for creating simple Provencal meals or more ambitious gourmet fare. Glass doors open out onto the dramatic courtyard, which is thoughtfully furnished with locally made bistro chairs and tables from Morocco. Straffed walls, potted plants, a colorful Moroccan rug and lanterns finish off the space nicely. Nearby is a guest WC. A stunning beech staircase leads up to the pastel-hued first floor, with inspiring views of the Luberon from every room. The first master bedroom has a king bed (convertible to twins) and an ensuite bathroom with bathtub/shower. The second master bedroom has a queen bed, window with views and an ensuite bathroom with bathtub/shower. A small library offers two comfortable chairs, a backgammon table and a view out onto the courtyard. Ancient exposed beams define the second floor, which has three more bedrooms (a third master bedroom with queen bed and ensuite bathroom and two bedrooms with kings beds and shared bathroom and WC) and a spacious living area with contemporary furniture, satellite TV, stereo/CD and DVD player. The living area also offers direct access out onto the rooftop terrace with views of the nearby villages of Gordes, Roussillon, Goult and Mont Ventoux. Chairs and tables make this a perfect venue for enjoying sunsets with after-dinner digestive. La Maison de Lumiere provides a perfect home base for exploring the natural riches of the Luberon or for immersing yourself into the leisurely Provencal lifestyle. The home is very child friendly, making it a perfect vacation spot for the entire family.
