Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a must, particularly for international travel. The investment of time and money put into your vacation can become a total loss if something unforeseen happens. Of course insurance is something you always hope you won't have to use, but if you should need it, you're going to be so glad to have it!

Our client Susan wrote: "Am a fan of your organization since renting Barone in Venice last year. Was just in Mexico, fell and fractured my left arm. I've always gotten Travel Guard trip insurance prior to international travel and I can't say enough good things about how they helped me in time of medical crisis! And I'm a physician." She suggested that we pass on how helpful a company like that can be.

Our favorite travel insurance company has always been Travel Guard. We've recommended them for years. They are the industry's leading travel insurance provider, covering more than 6 million travelers worldwide each year. They offer plans for vacation and trip cancellation, travel interruptions and delays, emergency medical and health expenses, lost baggage, and more. They even offer worldwide travel medical evacuation that will transport you home or to the hospital of your choice, plus cover any qualified accompanying travel medical expenses you may incur. If you are a frequent international traveler, they offer annual policies as well as per-trip plans. Plus, every plan includes a 24 hour "911" travel emergency service for emergency medical assistance, last-minute or emergency travel and flight changes, lost luggage tracking, pre-trip travel advice and more.

When you rent a villa or apartment from we recommend you contact Travel Guard. Usually villa rentals are arranged several months in advance, and a lot can happen that might make it impossible for you to go. I remember one older couple had their annual villa rental all paid for when the wife fell and broke her hip, landed in the hospital, and had to have surgery with a rather long recovery expected. All the kids and grandkids had arranged to fly into the villa, and now they were not able to go until Grandma was well. Travel insurance pays back the entire rental in such a case. As it turned out, her recovery went smoothly and they were able to reschedule the trip a couple months later and had a wonderful time.

Travel Guard also has special plans for international students, golfing travelers, and other special situations. They will give you a quote through the website or you can call them at 1 (800) 826-4919.

Crispy potatoes!

Patate Arrosto

(Roast Diced Potatoes)

Arezzo cooks believe that it is practically obligatory to present roast potatoes alongside their celebrated roast pork. The potatoes are seasoned with rosemary and garlic and are generally cooked in the pork drippings. They can, however, also be cooked in olive oil.

1 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 lbs baking potatoes, peeled and cut into small bite size pieces
3 fresh garlic cloves
2 Tbsp fresh rosemary leaves

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Meanwhile, in a roasting pan, on the stovetop, warm the olive oil over moderate heat. Add the potatoes, garlic and rosemary and stir to coat all the ingredients with the oil. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast the potatoes, stirring frequently, until golden, about 40 minutes.

Remove the potatoes from the oven. With a slotted spoon, transfer them to absorbent paper towels to drain. Arrange in a warm serving dish and serve immediately.

Emmanuel, the president of, was born and raised in Southern France and has a deep-seated love of travel that makes him perfect to lead the company. After meeting his wife Cori at business school in Wisconsin, the two of them spent a year in France, a year and a half in Japan teaching language, and then took the opportunity to get an "around the world ticket" which took them for five months to Asia, the U.S., and Central America. When they moved to the States, and came to Seattle for the first time, they promptly fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. Emmanuel immediately found a job as a Sales Agent at a company called Rent A Home International, which has evolved into Some time after the originator of the business (Hilde Freeman) retired after a severe skiing accident, Emmanuel and Cori became owners. It was a perfect fit for both of them, with their language skills, love of travel and business experience. The rest is history! Emmanuel has always been excited about linking people with other cultures by sending them to properties that immerse them in local culture. He sees this as an emerging, growing trend not just for Americans but for an international market. His vision is to increase property choices, expand to other popular regions of the world, and yet keep the hands-on quality control of a small family business.

Cori is the Property Manager for the company. She communicates with owners, finds new properties, and arranges visits to those we want to represent. The mother of Yohan and Tatiana, Cori is also busily involved as a school volunteer where she uses her gifts of organization.

The lovely Bastidon in Saignon

Le Bastidon

Provence, France

Le Bastidon Duplex One is an ideal accommodation in a comfortable and beautiful setting. Here one can step back in history to a simpler time and truly get away from the usual fast pace of modern life. This property is part of the quaint little village of Saignon. The duplex is part of a large stone farmhouse that is divided on one end into rooms (see Le Bastidon and La Chic) and now has two duplex apartments on the other. The two story apartment has its own private cobblestone terrace on the back side of the building. Large lawns, terraces and attractive vegetable gardens, as well as a 5x15 meter pool which was completed in May of 2001, are shared with other tenants. One of the best features here is the sweeping view of the village.

"The place was beautiful, very tastefully decorated and simple. The pool was lovely and everything was very well maintained. Everyone was helpful, providing recommendations on where to go and babysitting when we needed it."
